Job Description

We are looking for an experienced sustainability specialist who will work to educate, support, and guide our clients through their sustainability journey, focusing on energy efficiency and conservation, and sustainable business practices, with a focus on the tourism and hospitality sector.

This role involves conducting energy and sustainability assessments, assisting in achieving certifications and developing sustainability strategies and action plans.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Conduct sustainability and energy assessments for small and medium-sized businesses, both onsite and virtually.
• Guide clients through the GreenStep Sustainable Tourism and Green Business Certification process, interpreting results, reviewing evidence, and providing tailored recommendations.
• Collaborate on program management tasks and seek opportunities to enhance service delivery.
• Develop and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with clients to support long-term sustainability goals.
• Manage and analyze data to inform the creation of sustainability action plans.
• Stay current on industry trends, best practices, benchmarks, and competitive landscape.
• Represent GreenStep at industry events, conferences, and trade shows as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• 5+ years in sustainability consulting or a related field, with a comprehensive understanding of environmental, social, cultural, and economic sustainability.
• Demonstrated interest and enthusiasm related to energy efficiency and sustainability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and French, able to clearly explain complex concepts.
• Strong project management skills and the ability to perform under tight deadlines.
• Demonstrated passion for sustainability and continuous personal and professional improvement.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, CRM, and other automation tools.
• Solid technical knowledge in energy/water/waste/carbon management, reduction, and conservation practices, socio-cultural and economic sustainability
• Experience in energy assessments and building energy performance is an asset.
• Understanding of tourism industry stakeholders (operators, government, DMOs, industry sectors) is considered an asset
• Ability to bring subject matter expertise on sustainability trends, practices, innovations, and the global community

Education Requirements

• Degree in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Sustainability Management, or a related field.
• Professional certifications related to sustainability or energy management (e.g., Certified Energy Manager, LEED Green Associate) are highly desirable.
