Role Overview

Our Service at Brixton Hill mainly provides support services to Looked After Children (LAC) and Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC). It is a 6 bed emergency timeout accommodation provision for young adults ages 16-17 year old.

The Service provides 24-hour emergency bed spaces for LACs and UASCs, with an average of 4 weeks stay whilst engaging with family mediation to return home or move to more long-term accommodation.

We have a fantastic opportunity for an individual who is interested in working with us as a Young People Support Worker. This exciting job will avail you the opportunity to manage a caseload of 4-5 residents, addressing their physical, emotional, social and behavioural needs; supporting them to progress towards independence.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety and wellbeing of clients in the service at all times, including using safeguarding and emergency alert procedures as applicable.
• Carry a small caseload of clients, you will take responsibility, alongside the team, for the wellbeing and day to day support of all clients in the services.
• Lead on risk and needs assessment and support planning for your key clients and contribute to ongoing needs and risk assessment of other clients in the service.
• Involve clients in the decisions made about them and encourage participation in Depaul’s wider community programme of activities.

Please note that this job opportunity is offered as a full-time (37.5 hours a week), permanent role.

What We Are Looking For – Person Specification

• Experience of working with clients with mental health and or drug/alcohol dependency issues.
• Ability to work with clients whose behaviour may be personally challenging.
• Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships and boundaries with clients.
• Experience working in partnership with multi agency teams, including social workers, immigration and mental health professionals.
• A knowledge and understanding of Risk Assessments and Support Planning.
• Ability to demonstrate clear understanding of safeguarding requirements and procedures.
• Effective collaborative working
