Job Purpose
The Sports Scientist is responsible for applying scientific principles to enhance physical performance, prevent injuries, and support rehabilitation in a healthcare setting. This role focuses on evaluating, designing, and implementing evidence-based programs tailored to patients recovering from injuries, managing chronic conditions, or seeking to improve overall physical fitness and well-being.
Key Responsibilities
• Performance Evaluation: Assess patients’ physical abilities, movement patterns, and fitness levels using advanced testing tools and techniques.
• Program Design: Develop individualized exercise and rehabilitation programs tailored to patients’ needs, focusing on improving strength, mobility, endurance, and overall functionality.
• Injury Prevention: Implement strategies to minimize the risk of injuries, emphasizing biomechanics, flexibility, and conditioning.
• Rehabilitation Support: Collaborate with physiotherapists and medical professionals to assist in the recovery of patients from sports-related or orthopedic injuries.
• Monitoring Progress: Track patient performance and adapt programs based on progress, ensuring optimal outcomes.
• Research and Innovation: Stay updated on advancements in sports science and integrate innovative methods into patient care.
• Education and Guidance: Provide guidance to patients, healthcare staff, and caregivers on proper exercise techniques, training regimens, and lifestyle modifications.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with physiotherapists, nutritionists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive care.
• Data Analysis and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of patient assessments, program designs, and progress reports, ensuring data-driven decision-making.
Qualifications
• Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, or a related field is required.
• A master’s degree in Sports Science or related specialization is required.
• Experience:
• Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in sports science, rehabilitation, or a healthcare environment.
• Certification:
• Relevant certifications such as Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or Exercise Physiologist Certification are preferred.
• Licensing: Eligibility to obtain relevant licensing from UAE health authorities if required.
• Language: Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies
• Scientific Knowledge: Strong understanding of human physiology, biomechanics, and exercise science principles.
• Technical Expertise: Proficiency in using performance assessment tools and technology, such as motion capture systems and metabolic carts.
• Patient-Centered Approach: Ability to tailor programs to individual needs, considering medical conditions and recovery goals.
• Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills to educate patients and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Problem-Solving: Analytical skills to identify issues and implement solutions in rehabilitation and performance enhancement.
• Research Orientation: Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development.
• Time Management: Ability to manage multiple patients and prioritize tasks efficiently.
