Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to recruit a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) on the Surgical Admissions Unit. This post may include rotation with DSU. The admissions unit is responsible for ensuring patients are safely and effectively admitted prior to surgery. The unit is open Mon-Fri 7.00am until 5.30pm and Surgery also takes place on Saturdays and you will be on a rota to cover the weekends.

We are a forward thinking modern Foundation Trust and are looking to recruit a HCA who is highly motivated, open to change and demonstrates excellent communication skills. As an integral member of the team the post holder will assist and participate in the smooth running of the unit by providing support to their team and in the smooth pre-operative phase of patients care.

We have ten surgical theatres, three of which are dedicated day surgery. We have a fantastic team of staff and they would support any new member of the team. There would be a period of teaching and training for the successful candidate. There is also the opportunity for rotation between Pre-operative admissions and the Day surgery unit.

Main duties of the job

1. Taking and recording observations such as blood pressure temperature and O2 saturations ( if trained and competent)

2. Urialysis

3. Venepuncture ( If trained and competent)

4. Ensuring specimens are delivered to pathology

5. Stocking up the treatment room and consultationrooms

6. Chaperoning patients to scans or appointments

7. Case note delivery

8. Daily maintaining clean and safe treatment rooms

9. Ensuring patient identity and next of kin details are correct on all documentation

10. Completing and checking of specific paperwork documentation

11. To undertake such duties as maybe required from time to time and which are consistent with the responsibilities of the band and individuals level of competency
