Reporting to the Manager of Business Planning and Performance, the Business Planning and Performance Coordinator will assist in coordinating the work of the City Operations Business Planning and Performance (BPP) unit. The BPP unit works with partners in City Operations, Service Innovation and Performance, and Department Strategy to support strategic, corporate and service planning that balances today’s economic, social and political realities with tomorrow’s operational needs.

The BPP Coordinator will support and contribute to the development of the strategy, priorities and direction of the City Operations department and its four branches (Edmonton Transit Service, Fleet and Facility Services, Parks and Roads Services, and Waste Services) in alignment with service standards, department and corporate objectives, and City Council direction.

What will you do?

• Lead the coordination and tracking of the BPP unit’s strategy, planning, performance, policy, risk and change management activities
• Conduct and support research, analysis, and reporting for the unit’s strategy and planning, policy, and performance, risk and change management activities
• Develop and/or support presentations that summarize findings and / or recommendations for a variety of stakeholders and audiences
• Support continuous improvement activities to ensure the unit is providing effective, efficient and value-added strategic business planning services
• Contribute to the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of unit level processes and practices related to strategy, business planning, performance management, risk management, policy and change management

Qualifications

• Completion of a University degree in Arts, Business Administration, Commerce, Finance, Humanities, Public Administration, Planning, Social Sciences or a related discipline
• A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in a combination of strategic and operational business planning, working with corporate performance measures and budgets

Assets:

• Coordination and project or event management experience within a public sector or other large, complex environment

Skills required for success:

• Knowledge and experience in business planning, the business planning cycle and process
• Knowledge of the development and management of performance measurement strategies and tools
• Knowledge of coordination, project management, change management and continuous improvement best practices
• General understanding/knowledge of strategic and business planning principles, policy development and benchmarking and procedures for alignment of performance measures with the department’s business plan goals
• General understanding of corporate priorities, strategies, and initiatives and associated timelines associated with the corporate reporting processes/protocols
• Knowledge of primary and secondary research methodology, including design and implementation, data collection, and trend and results analysis and presentation
• Skill and ability to effectively gather, synthesize, and analyze data
